REBEL TRIBE mamas are sending the POWERFUL message that WE ARE AT THE GATES AND WE AREN'T LEAVING UNTIL OUR CHILDREN ARE LIVING IN A WORLD WHERE THEY ARE ALL CHERISHED.
One of my favorite African Proverbs states:
"when one in the village is ill, the whole village is not well."
I have held on to this email for quite some time. And today I decided to hit send. Today on Juneteenth. Today, when I know that none are well until all are well.
The events for the past couple of weeks have been heartbreaking. The horrific events has reignited a collective fury about the inhumane injustice that Blacks have endured for over 400 years in this country. As a Black Mother of a Black daughter, and a Black son with Autism, I have wept continuously. I weep for my children...I weep for Black children... I weep for all children.
In all honesty, there are days that I am NOT OKAY. I am unsure of how to navigate through the pain. However, there are days that I look at my village of moms and know that I will be OKAY.
I initially started REBEL TRIBE because I was looking for a tribe of mothers who would journey with me as I navigated through Motherhood and Autism. What I knew then, is that Motherhood is Revolutionary. What I knew then is that Mothers are Powerful!...Women are Powerful! What I knew then was that Mothers are the catapult to Change. What I knew then, is what I know now. MOTHERS ARE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH.
We are RAISING the children. The children who CAN put an end to this. They are learning every single moment from us. They see the overt forms of racism, they hear the subtle forms of racism. They watch... they see... they hear... What we say, What we do and WHO is in our circles.
As a black mother, my plea is that you raise anti-racist children. Black children need allies who will stand up for them.
Use your VOICE. Talk to your family members. Talk to your partners. Speak to your schools, churches, hospitals... wherever your voice can be heard.
We are the village raising the future changemakers. Together, we will move hand in hand and dismantle the system of structural racism. Because our beautiful children deserve this.
PULL UP AT THE GATES.
